THE FOREIGN INTELLIGENCE SERVICE
PRESS RELEASE
On Wednesday, June 2 of this year, a group made up of experts of the Committee on Defense within the Chamber of Deputies, the committees on parliamentary oversight of the work by the intelligence services, as well as representatives of the Eurisc Foundation and the Informing Centre on the Security Culture paid an inquiry and documentation visit to the headquarters of the Foreign Intelligence Service.
The participants in the meeting discussed aspects regarding the implementation of certain oversight principles and mechanisms specific to the Euro-Atlantic area into the security sector of Romania, and how to get them harmonized with the national legal system and the parliamentary practice in our country.
The representatives of the Foreign Intelligence Service highlighted the positive effects of the parliamentary oversight on the work by the institution, including with regard to reflecting an accurate image of the service onto the civil society and the media.
The event was part of the programme of monitoring the state’s institutions by the civil society, and it represented a useful democratic exercise for strengthening and developing a transparent relationship between the SIE and its social partners.
