THE FOREIGN INTELLIGENCE SERVICE
PRESS RELEASE
The Head of the Romanian Foreign Intelligence Service (SIE), Ph.D. Gheorghe Fulga, met with the chiefs of intelligence and security structures of the Alliance, in Brussels NATO's General Headquarters, on 12 of May 2005.
The discussions were focused on the course and perspectives of the cooperation between the above mentioned structures and the SIE.
The Director of the SIE expressed his gratitude for the opportunities offered to the Foreign Intelligence Service within the NATO, aimed to ensure the joining up of the Romanian institution to the Alliance's priorities and objectives, emphasizing that the actions carried out at the partnership level took a natural course, ranging from cooperation and assistance to acknowledgement by and coordination with the specialized units of the NATO.
At the same time it was underlined the opportunity given to the SIE to be part of the conceptual process over the necessary changes that were to be adopted at the intelligence management mechanism level, so that the reaction speed at asymmetrical threats, in the international security environment, would increase, through a better coordination of the existent resources.
A great importance was attached to the initiatives suggested by the SIE's director for the enlargement of the cooperation range on the professional level. The proposals were considered very useful and opportune, and they were to be put in practice in the following period.
Regarding the most actual priorities of the SIE, it was again stated that the Romanian service launched an extensive process of redesigning its intelligence, operational and analysis capacities, by focusing them on the areas that are submitted to serious risks to the euro Atlantic security.
Both parties happily noticed that the good cooperation achieved by now, promised to offer perspectives of further developments, thus contributing to the strengthening of the Alliance and member states' security, as well as to a better configuration of its role, according to the new missions and operations carried out by the NATO.
