On July 12, 2006 Mr. Traian Băsescu, President of Romania, took part in the meeting of the enlarged Managing Board of the Foreign Intelligence Service that assessed the stage of the implementation of the reform programme that was approved, November 2005, by the Country’s Supreme Defence Council.

The leadership of the Service made a presentation on the way in which the institutional modernization process was unfolding, from the vantage point of the structural and conceptual changes performed thus far, as well as the goals envisaged for the upcoming period.

The discussions also tackled organizational issues, focusing on assessing the management performance of the officers that filled command positions, in keeping with the responsibilities stemming from both the adjustment to the transformations that occured in the Romanian society and the commitments made to the Euro-Atlantic intelligence community.

At the meeting with the executive staff, the Romanian President appreciated the current phase of the reform and the performance parameters proposed to be accomplished. He also reiterated the responsibilities incumbent upon the Foreign Intelligence Service, in the upcoming period, in the field of defence and furthering the national interests.
