PRESS RELEASE

On October 17, 2006, at 14:00 hours, at the Parliament Palace, the board of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SIE) is to meet the plenary assembly of the Joint Standing Committee of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate for the Parliamentary Oversight of the Activity of the SIE.

The meeting will be held at the request of the SIE Director by virtue of the pledge he made during the October 3, 2006 hearing and of the top priority that the SIE deems the demarches of the Joint Standing Committee for the observance of the legislation on intelligence and security.

Amongst the topics proposed figures the need to find more flexible ways of communication (a meeting agenda and subjects for discussions), as well as to establish criteria for cooperation and mutual respect adequate to the specific nature of the activity of both institutions.
