THE FOREIGN INTELLIGENCE SERVICE
PRESS RELEASE
Between May 5 and 7, the Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service, Ph.D. Gheorghe Fulga, paid a visit to Austria, at the invitation of the Federal Agency for State Protection and Counter Terrorism.
The talks held highlighted the convergence of the assessments on the main topical security risks, as well as the common preoccupation by the two Services to identify and implement structural-organizational solutions and proper methods to increase the effectiveness and coherence of the activity of combating unconventional threats, particularly international terrorism and proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
Other issues approached were the strategic directions of ensuring the security of the democratic states, the prospects of bilateral cooperation, the participation by the two Services in the overall efforts for defining and rendering it operational the mechanisms to prevent and fight terrorist threats, as they get integrated into a pro-active vision, based on shared standards.
Heed was also given to the common concern with strengthening regional security in South-East Europe, as well as the importance of multilateral cooperation between the intelligence and security services in attaining this goal.
