THE FOREIGN INTELLIGENCE SERVICE

PRESS RELEASE

The Joint Standing Committee of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate for the Exercise of Parliamentary Control over the Activity of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SIE) met, October 14, 2008, at the Headquarters of this Service.

This was an opportunity to review the activity of the institution and assess the involvement of the Service in managing the latest developments in the operational situation abroad that are relevant to our country.

Talks also approached SIE’s budget execution in the first three terms, as well as the conclusions of the previous control conducted by the Court of Audit, which certified the financial management discharge for the 2007 budget to the main credit release authority.

According to the conclusions, SIE’s capabilities were appropriately managed and the activity of this institution was appreciated both nationally, by the decision-makers, for substantiating the activities meant to safeguard and promote the national interest, and internationally, for developing strategic partnerships with the states in the Euro-Atlantic realm, actively involved in regional stabilization.
