Mihai-Răzvan Ungureanu: Our world requires a different approach to intelligence. This type of information that we are talking about is not accessible to everybody. It is intelligence collected, managed and disseminated by an elite, a certain type of intellectual elite; it is intelligence which has to underpin the political decision-making process at all times, and which is, at the same time, a cornerstone for the very building of our current democracies. Unfortunately, the activity of the special services is one of those fields in which those who choose to express their views are never competent to do so. There is a lot of pulp fiction, and a lot of subjectivity when approaching this topic.
Mihai-Răzvan Ungureanu stressed that this book was the result of the joint efforts made by the SRI and SIE colleagues, and that it also addresses the future employees of the intelligence services. The SIE Director invited the attendees to read the book, even though it had a small font-size and no pictures.
